It Started With a Late-Night Text From a College Friend

At the end of 2024, I got a text from my friend Chris around midnight. He was a student at Rice University in Houston, Texas – the very university where the Rice Purity Test was born back in 1924. His message was simple:
“Dude, everyone here is obsessed with this purity test thing. You should build a proper website for it. Every version online looks terrible.”
I’m a web developer. I spent years building websites and digital tools, so I knew exactly what Chris meant the moment I looked up the test online. Every existing version was cluttered, slow, full of pop-ups, and honestly, kind of untrustworthy. None of them felt like a place you’d actually want to share something personal.
So I did what any developer would do at midnight. I opened my laptop and started building.

From a Dorm Room Conversation to Thousands of Daily Visitors

What began as a weekend side project quickly turned into something much bigger than either of us expected. Chris gave me the inside perspective, what students at Rice University actually look for in the experience, how freshmen use the test during Orientation Week, and why it matters so much to the people who take it. I brought the technical side, clean code, fast loading, mobile-first design, and a great User Experience.
Together, we wanted to build one thing: the version of the Rice Purity Test that people could actually trust.
Today, Rice Purity Test Lab welcomes thousands of students, teens, and curious visitors from across the United States. That midnight text from Chris turned into something we’re genuinely proud of. Currently, we have the most updated version in 2026.

What We Stand For

We’re not just hosting a quiz. We understand that behind every score is a real person, a freshman navigating their first week of college, a group of friends comparing notes on a Friday night, or someone quietly reflecting on how far they’ve come.
We built this platform on three principles that we refuse to compromise on:
Honesty — We use the original 100-question Rice Purity Test exactly as intended. No manipulated questions, no inflated scores, no clickbait results. Just the real test.
Anonymity — We will never ask for your name, email, or any personal information. Your score is yours and yours alone. We don’t store it, we don’t see it, and we never will.
Respect — Our audience is primarily teens and college students, and we treat every single visitor with the maturity and respect they deserve. No judgment. No shame. No labels. Every score tells a different story.

Who We Are

Rice Purity Test Lab is independently owned and operated. We are not affiliated with Rice University in any official capacity; we are simply two people who deeply respect the cultural tradition that the university started a hundred years ago, and wanted to give it a home worthy of its legacy.
I handle all the technical development, design, and maintenance of the platform. Chris keeps me grounded in the real student experience, making sure what we build actually reflects what college students in America need and expect.
We are a small operation, but we care enormously about the quality of what we put out. Every update, every improvement, every tweak to this website is made with our community in mind.

A Note to Everyone Who Takes the Test

Whether your score is a 98 or a 12, it doesn’t define you. This Test has always been about self-reflection, not self-judgment. It’s a snapshot of your experiences, not a verdict on your character.
We built this test to be a place that feels safe, honest, and completely yours. No matter why you’re here, we’re glad you found us.
